Outreach is a Seaside project set up to further the organization's purpose of sharing and promoting the art of quilting by interacting with schools and organizations. School year 2006-07 will find volunteers in Manatee Elementary, Hoover Middle School, Melbourne High School and Satellite Beach High School.. The team of volunteers goes into the schools and teaches the children, usually one-on-one, to machine-sew quilts. The quilts are then donated to children within the Brevard community. About 300 children in grades 2-12 will participate this year.
Additional programs with libraries, home-school groups, Girl Scout troops, and summer camp programs add to the activities of this group of wonderful volunteers.
The project is greatly enhanced by the additional sponsorships of Brevard Public Schools, The Warm Company (Warm and Natural Batting), and The YLI Thread Corporation, which contribute machines and needed supplies to the children.
Seaside's Outreach Chairman works with The Kids Quilt Project and Rocket Quilters to oversee Seaside volunteers for these endeavors.
